Sony Announces the release of PSP-3000

Sony officially unveiled the third-generation PSP last August 20, with a new PS button, built-in mic and an improved LCD screen. Sony has taken the opportunity of the Leipzig Games Convention to reveal the brand-spanking new PSP-3000, arriving Oct 15 in Europe for €199 (around $250). Though it will look the same as the PSP-2000, you can expect an improved screen that's better outside with no glare and a built-in mic. This jives with rumors heard, and the new "PS Button" is part of the package.

Compared to the PSP-2000, the new 3000 model has twice the color gamut, five times the contrast ratio and an LCD response time that's twice as fast. The PSP-3000 is arriving on North American shores in mid-October.

wow, its looks so good. now the question is how much and how soon will it be available in the market. Sony has been plague with production delays in the past the market grew tired of such fantastic announcements. It may be the best PSP out there but when will we get our hands on it. Rght, guys?

"August 20, 2008 - The PSP design crew apparently never sits still. During its Games Convention press conference over in Leipzig, Germany, Sony took the wraps off of the much-rumored PSP 3000. The new device has the same base functionality as the current PSP (known as PSP slim, aka the PSP 2000), and in fact looks pretty much the same. However, there are of course a couple new features.

The PSP 3000 will include a built-in microphone for use with Skype and Go Messenger. It will also feature an "enhanced" LCD screen, with more vibrant colors and reduced glare when using it outside."

Yesterday, we reported on the leaked images from a factory in China which purported to show a redesign of Sony’s handheld game device. The new images revealed a metallic gray PSP with a built-in microphone, a slightly modified "Home" button and a sleeker, thinner chrome ring design.

PSP Fanboy got their hands on some additional photos and an answer from the source of the leak in China, who stated that the photost depicted merely a "design prototype" and not a definite product. The source pointed out that while this prototype might find its way into shops sometime int he future, it is not unusual for Sony to have manufacturers create design mock-ups for research purposes.

In response to a flurry of questions from journalists about the company’s plans, a spokesperson from SCEE said today that the company does not comment on "rumor and speculation". A refusal to comment is not necessarily the same thing as a denial, so for now we will file this news in the "possible" category.
